The installation is a large-scale lantern inspired by the imagery of a dreamcatcher. The dreamcatcher is believed to be able to sieve and cull through our subconscious thoughts to shape our conscious reality. Composed of interlocking hoops made from bicycle rims, a three-dimensional lantern or “portal” is formed. Symbolically, the hoop represents the circle of life, with no beginning or end. During the day, sunlight casts a single directional shadow through the interlocking hoops while at night, a single bulb in its core reveals an intricate layering of light and shadow at all angles, akin to unravelling the complex subconscious mind.
