“MERAK-07” fuses the futurism of satellites with the cultural language of the Wau Merak, a traditional Johorean kite. As kites were known as the precursor to aviation and aeronautics, the sculpture stands as a time capsule, creating a dystopian machine that captures both the simplicity of a kite with the complexity of a satellite model. In this work - a cacophony of fabric, steel hardwares, bamboo and light ropes are pieced together to form a nomadic, ornamented machine, taking voyage through unchartered terrains.
“Merak-07” is a commission for Carhartt WIP ‘s new store in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
