Inspired by iconography of the Chargers, “Surge” is a four-storey high light installation set in the atrium of the new Dan Fouts Building in the Nike World Campus grounds. Shaped from 120 metres of tensile steel cable and illuminated with slender LED-lit acrylic blocks, the installation cuts through the stagnancy of the atrium’s void. The cables latch on the structure of the building and morph its form gradually, creating various geometrical vistas across levels. Almost like a bolt of lightning or electricity, the installation depicts a sudden burst of energy and sweeping dynamism, celebrating the unmatched spirit being on and off the field.
